Storage heaters are the primary form of heating used in most homes across the UK, however, 60% of UK residents want to switch to a more efficient form of heating as a result of rising energy bills.
When it comes to our customers asking for a renewable alternative, the most common question is how storage heaters or traditional heating compares to far infrared heating and what are the savings costs.
Are infrared heaters safer?
Storage heaters heat overnight and emit heat all day regardless of whether the room is hot or the weather is warmer than expected. Far Infrared heats the objects around them not the air, so heat isn’t lost when doors and windows are opened.
Traditional Heating warms the air which can lead to condensation and dampness. Infrared warms objects and the surrounding walls without warming the air humidity is reduced and condensation doesn’t form. Using Infrared Mirrors and Towel heaters for your bathroom reduces dampness meaning less mould, bacteria, and fungus associated with ill health.
Traditional heating heats air and causes airflow around the house that carries dust, pollen, and allergens, where Infrared heating is non-convective. By warming the objects around you and the fabrics of the building, our bodies naturally stop losing heat to combat temperature differences between our bodies and their surroundings, resulting in feeling warmer in a cooler room.
Traditional heating temperatures are 22-25 degrees and Infrared is typically 18 to 20 degrees, meaning less heating time and running costs
Are infrared heaters cheap to run?
Infrared panels are highly efficient and cheaper to run than storage heaters, lowering your energy bills by 30-50% on average. However, they can be more expensive, to begin with, as you should make your money back in a little over a year. A typical storage heater is 3kw and the equivalent panel is 800 watts.
Infrared Heating is far more controllable than Storage heaters. Storage heaters heat overnight and emit heat all day regardless of whether the room is hot or the weather is warmer than expected. They heat the objects around them not the air so heat isn’t lost when doors and windows are opened.
